Recovering From Yesterday’s Losses
With FOMC approaching tomorrow, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the market today. But that’s the reality of trading: you never know exactly what’s going to happen.
Coming off yesterday’s losing session, today was a much better day. Not only did I finish profitable, but I recovered more than I lost yesterday, putting me back in the green for the week.
The Trades: Letting the Winners Run
The first opportunity came around 7:00 AM. There was a valid setup worth approximately 10 points, but I only walked away with $7. Once again, nerves got the better of me, and I exited far too early.
The next trade went much better. Price moved higher, and I captured 23 points on my first contract and another 5 points on the runner before the market reversed sharply.
At 9:35 AM, another opportunity presented itself. This time, I captured 22 points on my first contract while the runner continued climbing until approximately 11:45 AM, eventually delivering an impressive 127 points.
After roughly an hour and a half of sideways movement, I entered my final trade around 2:00 PM. I secured 17 points on the first contract and 5 points on the runner.
Every trade finished positive. It was a strong recovery.
Today’s Mistake: Understanding Fractal Confirmation
One important lesson came from a fractal around 8:45 AM.
I mistakenly treated what appeared to be a developing fractal as a confirmed level. What I hadn’t fully appreciated was that fractals can appear and disappear before they’re confirmed.
That mistake cost me approximately 30 points, or $60 in potential profit.
The lesson is simple: wait for fractal confirmation before using it to make trading decisions. An unfinished indicator shouldn’t dictate an exit.
Looking Ahead: FOMC Tomorrow
Tomorrow brings the FOMC announcement, and historically, these sessions haven’t been particularly favorable for my strategy. A few have worked out, but many haven’t.
I’m leaning toward sitting tomorrow out unless an exceptionally clear opportunity appears. There’s no reason to force a trade simply because the market is open.
Final Thoughts
Day 98 was a success. I recovered yesterday’s losses, finished positive on every trade, and allowed one runner to capture a substantial move.
There’s still work to do, particularly with my morning nerves and fractal confirmation. But the biggest takeaway is that one losing day doesn’t define the week.
The goal remains the same: follow the rules, manage the risk, and let the results take care of themselves.
Total Profit: $391
