Today was an interesting day. I was a little nervous going into the session because the market had gone almost straight up yesterday. That made me hesitant to start trading today, even though I know I need to trust the system and actually take the setups when they appear.
That is probably the biggest thing I need to work on right now. I keep feeling like I can predict what the market is going to do next based on what just happened, but I really can’t. My job is not to predict the market. My job is to follow the rules, take the valid trades, and let the results play out over time.
There was no pre-market trade today because MNQ was mostly trading inside a range. The market did not move much early on, which made sense considering it was already near its all-time high. Eventually, though, it did push up and reach the all-time high during the session.
The first valid trade came around 8:30. It was a winner of approximately 28 points, with the runner gaining another 32 points.
The next trade came at 11:50 and was a loser of 13 points.
Another setup appeared around 12:55, and that trade lost 22 points.
The final trade of the day was a winner, but I did not take it. That was frustrating because it would have turned the day into a much stronger positive result. Instead, I finished the day only about $4 up. If I had simply followed the strategy and taken every valid setup, I likely would have finished more than $100 ahead.
That is the real lesson from today. I am still allowing my opinion about what I think the market is going to do to interfere with my execution. After seeing certain moves or taking a couple of losses, I start trying to anticipate what comes next. But the whole purpose of having a mechanical strategy is that I do not need to know what comes next.
Tomorrow, the goal is simple: stop predicting and start executing. If the setup is valid according to my rules, I take it. If it is not valid, I stay out. The outcome of any individual trade does not matter nearly as much as consistently following the process.
I still finished the day positive, but more importantly, today showed me exactly what I need to improve.
