Knowing When to Stay Out

I debated whether to write a post today because, quite frankly, there’s not much to report. Today was an FOMC day, and I decided to stay out of the market entirely.

There are typically eight scheduled FOMC meetings each year, and looking back at my trading experience, these days have been a mixed bag. Some have offered profitable opportunities, while others have resulted in significant losses. The volatility and unpredictability surrounding these announcements make me question whether trading them is worth the risk.

My strategy generally tells me to avoid FOMC days, and today I followed that rule.

Discipline Is Still Progress

Looking back at today’s price action, I believe I would have lost money had I traded. So, while I didn’t make any profit, I also avoided an unnecessary loss.

That’s something worth recognizing.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout these 99 trading days is that being a successful trader isn’t just about knowing when to enter the market. It’s also about knowing when to stay out.

Tomorrow brings another trading day, another set of opportunities, and hopefully better conditions for my strategy.

Day 99 Results: No trades. No losses. Rules followed.

Sometimes protecting your capital is the biggest win of the day.
