While we all sit at home, at least we can dream of a far off beach destination filled with hot gay men. But have you wanted to know what are some of the best gay beaches in the world?
In this post, I want to dive into some of the top gay beaches in the world. These are in no particular order, but these are, in my opinion, the best gay beaches for gay men. Unsurprisingly these are all in gay-friendly countries that have an established gay presence. For those nudists out there, some of these beaches made the list!
North Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia
Sydney is well known for its beach culture and so, of course, has a gay beach culture. North Bondi Beach is the beach if you want to be seen and see other gay men. There is a reason Sydney consistently has one of the best gay beaches in the world!
Praia do Abricó, Rio de Janiero, Brazil
Praia do Abricó is a well known nudist beach that caters to gay people or really anybody who wants to be nude. It’s still part of Rio de Janeiro but away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Popular with tourists looking to see a more authentic side of Rio.
Hanlan’s Point Beach, Toronto, Canada
Since 1862 there have been nude sunbathers at Toronto’s Hanlan’s Point Beach, and Toronto made it official in 2002. Because males make up a large percentage of the nudist population, this has always been a favorite for gay beachgoers. This beach is in the heart of Toronto, and to get there, you need to take a ferry from downtown Toronto to the island.
Fire Island, New York, USA
If you’re a gay guy in the United States and even somewhat know the gay scene, then you’ve heard of Fire Island. Located on Long Island, about two hours from Manhattan, it’s known as the spot to be in the summer for New York gays. There is even a clothing-optional section of the beach.
Sebastian Street Beach, Fort Lauderdale, USA
For a long time, Miami was the gay area, and although it’s still great, Fort Lauderdale has come into its own. Sebastian Street Beach has become the unofficial gay beach thanks to it’s proximity to gay bars and gay-friendly hotels. The section between Sebastian and Castillo streets is mainly known to draw the gay crowd.
Hollywood Beach, Chicago, USA
Chicago has beaches, and we even have a gay beach! Known as Hollywood Beach or Kathy Osterman Beach, this Chicago beach is about 5 miles north of downtown but easily accessible. During the summer, this is the beach for gays, and then it’s a short ride to the clubs and bars.
Hilton Beach, Tel Aviv, Israel
Tel Aviv has long been the only gay-friendly city in the Middle East, and because it’s on the beach, it has a gay beach! Hilton Beach is named because of the adjacent Hilton Hotel and is where most gay beachgoers go. The height of this beach is Pride Week in Hilton Beach, and another reason why it’s one of the best gay beaches in the world.
Playa Delfines, Cancun, Mexico
Cancun is a perfect beach destination with sugary sandy beaches and a party scene just off the beach at night. For gay travelers, the go-to beach is Playa Delfines at the end of the Hotel Zone in Cancun. It’s beautiful and wide and more secluded than other beaches in Cancun.
Elia Beach, Mykonos, Greece
Greece is already gay friendly, and the whole island of Mykonos is known as a gay destination. Elia Beach, on the far side of the island, is a beautiful secluded beach with a great gay scene and, for me, one of the best gay beaches in the world. Have a tropical drink, layout in the sun, and admire the beautiful men that frequent this beach.
12th Street Beach, South Beach, Florida
Right in the heart of South Beach, just off the coast of Miami, is one of the best gay beaches in North America. Miami has always had a great gay scene, and because it sits right on the ocean, it has excellent sandy beaches. The great part is you can lounge all day, and right behind you are tons of bars and clubs at night.
Playa Los Muertos Beach, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Mexico isn’t always the most gay friendly, but the city of Puerto Vallarta certainly is. Known as the San Francisco of Mexico, the gay beach in Puerto Vallarta is right in the Zona Romantica part of Puerto Vallarta. It’s perfect for gay travelers to take in the sun, and the take in the charming old town just off the beach.
Plage de Carras, Nice, France
Plage de Carras is in the heart of Nice, and although not specifically a gay beach, it is mostly where gay people in Nice go. There is a nearby gay nudist beach but is notoriously hard to get to; therefore, I recommend Plage de Carras. The great thing is that Nice is pretty compact, especially the old town, and it’s just behind the beach.
Platja de la Bassa Rodona, Sitges, Spain
Sitges is already known as a gay destination, so in reality, you’ll find gays on every part of Sitges. However, the Platja de la Bassa Rodona is probably the most popular gay beach in Sitges. If you’re looking for a nudist beach, Sitges has that too a 45-minute walk from Sitges at Platja de l’Home Mort.
Herring Cove Beach, Provincetown, Massachusetts
Provincetown is already known as a gay bed and breakfast type of destination. And because beaches surround it has some of the best gay beaches in the world. Herring Cove Beach is the place to go and is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Provincetown.
Little Beach, Maui, Hawaii
Hawaii doesn’t have a ton of gay beaches in the states, but perhaps the best one is the nudist Little Beach on Maui. It is a secluded beach and far from Lahaina but certainly worth a stop and visit driving around Maui. Nearby the beach, there are some food options if you plan on staying.
I hope you agree with my list and can get inspired for your next gay beach destination in this time of quarantine.
