Interested in gay travel but don’t know where to go? If you’re looking for “gaycities” to travel to, that have great gay social events, superb gay beaches, a size-able gay population, excellent gay nightlife, and are located in gay friendly countries, then look at my list!

So what are the top “gaycities?” I wanted to compile a list of the premiere “gaycities” not only in the US but in the world and I wanted to use a specific method for selecting these top “gaycities.” Click on the “See my methods!” to understand where I got the list from.

[toggle title=”So how did I make the decision?” state=”close” ]
  • I looked at 20 – 25 gay travel articles and read some of the best travel “gaycities.” Each time a city name came up, with what I thought was a good reason to put on my list, I gave 1 point on a spreadsheet.
  • I looked at websites like and looked at their polls adding 1 point every time a city was mentioned. They took of some of the best gay cities to travel under categories like
    • Best Overrall Gay City
    • Best Pride City
    • Best Food City
    • Best Resort Town
    • Best Nightlife
    • Best Dressed City
  • I took my own traveling into account and gave 1 point to gaycities that I’ve traveled to. I also took in second-hand accounts from friends who have traveled to some of these cities.
  • Finally I looked at Google using keywords that gay people would look up. Using the Keyword Planner and a calculator to add 1 point to cities that:
    • Used the Keyword Planner and typed in “gay porn” (changed the language depending on the city) and then narrowed down the search to only one city. In Keyword Planner you can take a searched phrase and narrow it down to a specific city throughout the world. I then got a general idea of how many gay people are in this specific city (its not exact but general)
    • I crossed the phrase “gay club” with all the cities on the list (65 cities) to see which cities had people wanting to go to gay clubs. I had a few surprises with this one!
    • I then just used the phrase “gay” and then all the cities on the list (i.e. “gay” Tel Aviv) to see who is looking up about gay things to these cities.
  • Most importantly, you don’t have to agree with me but I guarantee you that these are some excellent gay cities!

Zurich? Hell no. I’ve lived here for almost 5 years and I speak the language and know a lot of LGBT people. There are parties every few months, but there is only one full time gay night club. All the others closed down. Homosexuality is not widely accepted and if you want to hold your partner’s hand in public, expect insults, threats and long stares.

I’ve been to Zurich and generally speaking it was pretty open and on a level compared to the rest of the world, that’s true. However I’m sorry to hear that people still get stares and threats and that gay bars are closing down? Is there a reason why?

Uhm, Amsterdam is not a country just so you know…

Yes you’re correct. Typo on my part!
