Travel has always been a top priority in my life and I find ways to travel as much as possible. In 2013, I started ShawnVoyage, at first writing about a range of topics. This website had success but I quickly felt overwhelmed. So I took a year off from 2016 to 2017, where I didn’t write articles, to decide what I really want to do with this website.
After a year I decided to focus on just travel and geography. These two topics are really what I care about. So beginning in 2017, I’m focusing on geography type of projects like where I write about Longitudes. And on top of that I write about my own travels and try to inspire fellow travelers.
“Texan traveler keeping travel simple and straightforward. Based in Chicago but travel anywhere. Write and create things that truly matter.”
Over the years the traveling has amounted to now 48 countries. Both my parents valued traveling so much that they focused their money on family vacations and places to escape to. We would go on cruises, take little road trips as well as go to far off exotic locations. And each time I was more than thrilled to go.
After 28 years, I have travel on my mind all the time. I don’t travel full-time, I don’t think that’s the type of travel I would love to do. Instead I focus my time partly with a career where I can save for my future and afford fantastic trips around the world. This website is my own personal space where I can journal my travel as well as help fellow travelers.
“Traveling is the great true love of my life… I am loyal and constant in my love of travel. I feel about travel the way a happy new mother feels about her impossible, colicky, restless newborn baby – I just don’t care what it puts me through. Because I adore it. Because it’s mine. Because it looks exactly like me.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
France is special to me
I lived in France for about 6 months in 2010 and studied at the University of Grenoble. That time in my life will always have a special place in my heart and if you hear me talking about France, this is probably why. I love French culture and traveling in the country. I also speak French near fluently…
What kind of traveler am I?
It depends on where I’m going. I enjoy all parts about the world like cities, nature, hiking or just laying on the beach. I have forced myself to sleep in an airport or stay in dirty hostels but those days are over. These days the goals is to travel and be well while traveling. I don’t specialize in budget travel. In fact I prefer to tell readers about how to travel well but still keep most of their money. I also love looking fashionable while I travel. Just makes me feel better.
I’m married to Roman Blair who is an author, artist, and creator. I’m originally from Texas but I’ve been in Chicago for 5 years now. I graduated from the University of Texas in ’11 with a major in Geography.
